
PROVIDENCE – Vestas 11th Hour Racing finished in third place in the second leg of the Volvo Ocean Race that launched in Lisbon, Portugal and ended at Cape Town, South Africa.
When the first-place team MAPFRE finished, the Vestas team was behind by 62.1 nautical miles. The Vestas team finished the second leg of the race with a time of 19 days, 5 hours, 37 minutes and 53 seconds, nearly four and a half hours behind the first-place team.

This year, Rhode Island’s Charlie Enright and Nick Dana are on the Vestas 11th Hour Racing team. Enright is skipper for the Vestas crew following his debut campaign as skipper of Team Alvimedia in 2014-2015.
Vestas 11th Hour Racing placed in first in the first leg of the race.
The next leg of the race will be from Cape Town, South Africa, to Melbourne, Australia.
The Volvo Ocean Race village in Newport opens May 8, with the in-port race scheduled for May 19. The race is scheduled to depart Newport on May 20.
The Volvo Ocean Race 2017-18 will mark the event’s second consecutive visit to Rhode Island.
