Vicente’s Supermarket to open in former Ocean State Job Lot

PAWTUCKET – A vacant retail store is being renovated for Vicente’s Supermarket, a family-owned market that features Portuguese, Cape Verdean, Haitian, Central American and Caribbean foods.

The market will be located at the Ocean State Job Lot building at 470 Pawtucket Ave., which was vacated several years ago when Job Lot relocated within Pawtucket.

The building covers 15,000 square feet.

The market, owned by the Vicente family, is headquartered in Brockton, Mass. It was founded in 1994 by Manuel Vicente, a Cape Verdean immigrant. The Pawtucket store is expected to open this summer, according to a news release from Mayor Donald R. Grebien.

It will be located in the Woodlawn neighborhood.

The supermarket business plans to hire 60 or more people for the market. It has scheduled an on-site job fair on June 5.

And it will provide free rides to and from the store for anyone who purchases $100 or more of goods.
