Visiting Angels surveys kids about having grandparents on Facebook

EAST PROVIDENCE – A new survey by Visiting Angels, a national in-home senior care company with an office in East Providence, just produced some findings on how grandkids feel about having their grandparents on Facebook.

Some grandkids, for instance – one out of every four respondents – say their grandparents post too much information about their love life or social life. Over a third say their grandparents post dirty laundry regarding the family or finances, according a press release from Visiting Angels.

One out of every five grandchildren say their grandparents tend to get a bit crazy with emoji use on social media, whether it be in comments or posts. Thirty-three percent of respondents didn’t like it when their grandparents talked too much about politics (33 percent) or religion (28 percent).

Getting too personal with their Facebook page is another thing many grandchildren wish their grandparents wouldn’t do, according to Visiting Angels.

One in four do not approve of their grandparents trying to friend their friends. Thirty percent say they feel embarrassed when their grandparents post personal comments on their timeline. Half don’t want grandparents commenting on their social life, and nearly one in four grandkids do not want them commenting on their appearance in any way – clothing choices, hair color and body weight included.

Grandchildren are also not fans of grandparents focusing on subjects on social media that may be depressing. One out of five don’t like to see comments on their grandparents’ health or medical issues. Twenty-five percent don’t like seeing posts from grandparents that say they are lonely, unhappy, sick or sad.

Trying to act cool is another thing grandparents do on social media that their grandkids could do without; 22 percent are adamantly opposed, according to the survey.
