Volvo Ocean Race begins Sunday

PROVIDENCE – The Volvo Ocean Race 2017-18 begins on Sunday at 7:45 a.m. Eastern Standard Time in Alicante, Spain.

This year, Rhode Island’s Charlie Enright and Nick Dana are on the Vestas 11th Hour Racing team. Enright is skipper for the Vestas crew following his debut campaign as skipper of Team Alvimedia in 2014-2015.

The Volvo Ocean Race village in Newport opens May 8, with the in-port race scheduled for May 19. The race is scheduled to depart Newport on May 20.

The Volvo Ocean Race 2017-18 will mark the event’s second consecutive visit to Rhode Island.
