Volvo Ocean Race to arrive Tuesday

NEWPORT – The Volvo Ocean race approaches Newport, with race leader Team Brunel less than 200 nautical miles from port. The team leads the race by more than 12 nautical miles, followed by Dongfeng Race team and MAPFRE as of noon.

Vestas 11th Hour Racing, which is in for its homecoming port arrival in fifth place, is back by more than 24 nautical miles.

Despite the 12 nautical mile lead, Team Brunel helmsman Kyle Langford is predicting a photo finish for the race in port, “There’s going to be plenty of action on deck and not a lot of sleep,” he said in a Volvo Ocean Race update, “It’s going to be all hands on for the last 24 hours.”

Teams are currently projected to arrive on Tuesday morning, between 6-10 a.m. Vestas 11th Hour Racing is projected to arrive between 8 a.m. and noon.

The teams previously had been expected to arrive Monday night according to race projections released this weekend.
