Wakefield builder awarded for home theater

Baud Builders, a Wakefield-based home builder, took home top honors at the 2009 Chrysalis Awards for its renovation of a basement into a home theater.
The project involved transforming an unfinished lower-level space into a home theater room while working around existing steel support columns. During the course of 10 weeks the builder fabricated the theater proscenium off-site to allow time to custom-craft the curved stage, soffits, moldings and wall details. Room features include special panels to access electrical wiring, plumbing and windows, and high-performance audio-visual equipment and lighting design to complement the upscale aesthetics.
“This was the first time that Baud Builders has taken home top honors in this highly competitive category, which is quite an achievement,” Ken Kanline, director of the Chrysalis Awards, said in a statement.
The project was selected from more than 500 entries from around the country and judged by editors of Better Homes & Gardens, Woman’s Day, Southern Living and Houseplans.com on overall design, creative use of space and materials, and the degree to which the project enhanced the original structure.
Baud Builders President David C. Baud accepted the award on June 5 at the 16th annual Chrysalis Awards presentation held during the 2009 Southern Building Show and Conference at the Cobb Galleria Centre in Atlanta.
Since 1994, the Chrysalis Awards sponsored by Qualified Remodeler magazine have honored the finest remodeling projects in the nation to recognize professional excellence in the residential and commercial remodeling industry.
