Fitzgerald helped expand sales operations to new locations in Nevada and Texas and developed a national distribution channel that now comprises most of the company’s sales production. He also served as the business sponsor for service technology. His focus has often been the teams he’s led, he said.

“I strive to create an environment where people feel empowered and are encouraged to achieve more than they originally thought possible,” he said.

Fitzgerald helped the company navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, brought in new technology and coaching programs, and helped expand the policyholder base. He’s led teams focused on strategy and has experience on nonprofit boards in the healthcare industry.

He encouraged people interested in this kind of work to seek out challenges and invest in others. It’ll lead to success, Fitzgerald said.

“Learn from your greatest challenges and mistakes, remain open to new ideas and focus on building relationships before building influence. Leadership is ultimately about trust, collaboration and positioning others to succeed,” he advised.

He was drawn to the work, he said, because he wanted to provide support and peace of mind for people who need it. Seeing the team thrive continues to motivate him, Fitzgerald said. He feels strongly about ensuring the people around him achieve their greatest potential.

“Leadership means creating clarity, building trust and helping others achieve their greatest potential. It is not about a title or position; it is about responsibility, service and the willingness to put others in a position to succeed,” he said.

Overall, Fitzgerald wants to help others grow in their careers and considers that the highest mark of success.

“If I can help others grow, succeed and become leaders themselves, I believe that is one of the most meaningful and lasting impacts I can have,” Fitzgerald said.
