PROVIDENCE — State and local officials are expected to announce Monday afternoon plans regarding the future of McCoy Stadium, WJAR-TV NBC 10 reported Wednesday.
While officials have not specified what the announcement is for – only describing it as a “economic development announcement” – Rep. Mary D. Messier, D-Pawtucket, told WJAR that the announcement “has to do with sports.” The announcement will be part of a press conference Monday at 12:30 p.m.at the Blackstone Valley Visitor Center in Pawtucket.

Back in April, more than a year after the Pawtucket Red Sox announced that it will move to Worcester, Mass., after next season, R.I. Commerce Corp. received six proposals to reuse the 77-year-old, 10,000-seat stadium and redevelop downtown Pawtucket.
The agency, in its Request for Proposals, strongly preferred a sports franchise or entertainment tenant. Among the proposals being reviewed include creating soccer stadiums or bringing a new baseball franchise.
