Women & Infants gynecologist elected to minimally invasive surgery fellowship

PROVIDENCE – Dr. Christine Foley, a gynecologist at Women & Infants Hospital, has been elected to the Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery Board. She began the two-year position this month, serving as a fellowship representative.

Foley, of East Providence, has been practicing at Women & Infants since September of 2020, with a focus on benign gynecologic surgery.

Members of the fellowship board take part in a gynecological training program focused on minimally invasive surgery skills.

“As a MIGS surgeon, I have two years of additional fellowship training in advanced surgical techniques,” Foley said. “I treat a wide variety of benign gynecologic conditions, affecting women of all ages. Specifically, I specialize in endometriosis, ovarian masses, pelvic pain, large uterine fibroids and abnormal uterine bleeding. Using an interdisciplinary team, I treat the most refractory and complex cases. My priority is respecting women’s fertility choices in regards to ovarian and uterine conservation.”

In addition to being able to perform minimally invasive procedures, fellowship participants are equipped to serve as resources in communities where they practice, as well as support research into advanced endoscopic and gynecologic surgery.

The fellowship board is an international group that is part of the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists.
