PROVIDENCE – After serving as interim chief medical officer of Women & Infants Hospital since March, Care New England Health System recently announced Dr. Lisa Rameaka will take on the permanent role.
Prior to becoming interim chief medical officer for Women & Infants Hospital, Rameaka served as Kent Hospital’s interim chief medical officer from November 2021 to December 2022.

Rameaka was previously the principal investigator at Velocity Clinical Research Inc. and before that she was president of South County Medical Group where she led a $27 million group with 100 providers in 12 practices.
She was also chief medical officer of South County Health from June 2018 to June 2020. Rameaka also established the Institute for Robotics at South County Health and led the implementation of Early Recovery after Surgery programs for colon and urologic surgery leading to a 50% improvement in the length of stay and decreased complication rate.
At South County Health she also worked with surgeons to implement an Opioid Sparing Pathway that minimized opioid use in surgical patients, leading to a 50% reduction in opioid use and large decreases in the length of stay and the number of patients discharged with opioid prescription.
She also established a partnership with a multispecialty research facility to bring research trials to South County Health. Along with this, Rameaka led the health system’s transformation to a High Reliability Organization in Healthcare resulting in a decline of safety events and partnered with nursing leadership to change the culture that resulted in improvements to staff satisfaction survey results.
Rameaka earned her bachelor’s in biology from the University of Vermont and doctorate of medicine from Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at the University of Vermont and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Tufts University School of Medicine. She also has an MBA from the University of Massachusetts.
