Women & Infants researcher wins Brown award

PROVIDENCE – Dr. Maureen G. Phipps, director of the Division of Research in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Women & Infants Hospital, has been selected as the recipient of Brown University’s inaugural Dean’s Award for the Advancement of Women Faculty within the Division of Biology and Medicine.
Phipps, who is also associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology and community health at Brown’s Warren Alpert Medical School, was presented with the award at a celebration and reception on April 3.
The award is to be presented annually to a leader who has demonstrated a commitment to the recruitment, retention and advancement of female faculty through new or established programs and activities.
Since October 2003, Dr. Phipps has served as director of the Brown University/Women & Infants National Center of Excellence in Women’s Health, and she has promoted the advancement and recognition of women faculty at Brown and fostered collaboration and innovation in women’s health, clinical care and research.
Phipps is also a co-principal investigator in the National Children’s Study, a landmark national research project aimed at improving children’s health. In addition, she is chair of the Rhode Island Task Force on Preterm Births.
