NEWPORT – A symposium focused on internet addiction is set for next month at Salve Regina University.
“Innovations in Addiction Treatment: Epidemiology and Etiology of Internet Behavior” is scheduled for Nov. 18.
Dr. David Greenfield, founder and medical director of the Center for Internet and Technology Addiction and assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, will lead workshops and speak about internet addiction and internet use disorder.
Greenfield plans to explain how, in some cases, use of the internet and smartphones can lead to compulsive and addictive patterns. An expert in behavioral addiction medicine, Greenfield lectures nationally, has been widely published and appears on television.
The event, presented by Newport Hospital in partnership with The Gruben Charitable Foundation and Salve Regina, is free and open to the public.
Health care professionals seeking continuing education credits are welcome, as are attendees who are interested in causes and treatments of internet addiction.
