PROVIDENCE – For the fourth consecutive year, WPRI-TV Channel 12 and its “Eyewitness News” have been named News Station of the Year by the Massachusetts and Rhode Island Associated Press Broadcasters, the station announced late yesterday.

“This award is a great tribute to the hardworking and talented Eyewitness News employees and the service they provide to the viewers of Southern New England,” Joe Abouzeid, the news director for WPRI-TV and WNAC Fox Providence, said in a statement.

The award – presented Friday, at the annual Associated Press Awards dinner in Newton, Mass. – is given each year to the top TV or radio member of the Massachusetts/Rhode Island Associated Press. Judging is based on station quality and consistent contributions to the AP news report.

WPRI also operates The Pinpoint Weather Station, a local 24-hour weather channel on WPRI digital TV and Cox Communications.
