PAWTUCKET — The city and R.I. Commerce Corp. are working together to choose a preferred developer for McCoy Stadium, and Mayor Donald R. Grebien hopes it happens “within the next month,” WPRI-TV CBS 12 reported Friday.
The mayor said a structural analysis is being performed by a construction group to figure out the cost to refurbish the 10,000-seat, 77-year-old stadium for a new baseball team. The city-owned stadium was last remodeled in 1998. That project added more capacity, a new scoreboard, field-box seating, outfield seating and other amenities to the stadium.

The Pawtucket Red Sox announced more than a year ago that the Triple-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox will move to Worcester, Mass., after the 2020 season, and construction efforts on the new Worcester stadium – Polar Park – are underway.
In April, Commerce RI announced that it received six proposals to reuse the stadium and to redevelop downtown Pawtucket, with the agency strongly preferring in its Request for Proposals a sports franchise or entertainment tenant. Among the proposals, four of them involve bringing a new sports team to the city, either for baseball or for soccer.
