Yacht Restoration School event raises $650,000

The International Yacht Restoration School in Newport recently raised $650,000 its educational programs through a live auction and sit-down dinner. The event was held at the waterfront campus on Newport’s Thames Street.
Lexus, the title sponsor of the event, hosted the gala along with platinum sponsors Catello delle Regine, Conde Nast Publications, Prestige Lexus of Ramsey (N.J.) and Sentient Jet Membership. World-class sailor and journalist Gary Jobson served as master of ceremonies. The funds raised at the gala represent a record for the annual event and a 33-percent increase over the amount raised at last year’s gala, the school said.
To mark the event’s 10th anniversary, the gala became the centerpiece of an entire weekend of festivities to give people “a real Newport experience,” said Carol O’Malley, who co-chaired the event with Joseph Dockery. People came as far as Europe and Hong Kong to participate.
