PROVIDENCE – Providence ranked No. 46 on Yelp’s Top 50 Cities in America for Economic Opportunity, the business and service review site announced Tuesday.

The ranking is supposed to indicate locations where businesses have the best chance of success.

The ranking was formulated using several factors based on Yelp’s user data, including an estimation of an area’s business opportunity based on a model of the probability of a reviewed business staying open for at least another three months and the amount of times businesses are looked up on Yelp in a given area.

Charlotte, N.C., ranked No. 1 on the list. Three other cities in New England made the list, including Hartford, Conn., ranking one spot ahead of Providence, at No. 45; Portland, Maine, which ranked No. 49; and Boston rounded out the rankings at No. 50.
