PROVIDENCE – The R.I. Historical Preservation & Heritage Commission and Preserve Rhode Island announced the 10 winners of the 2018 Rhody Awards for Historic Preservation Monday.
A ninth annual event recognizing the honorees will be held at Belcourt of Newport from 4-6:30 p.m. on Oct. 21.
The 10 awardees are:
- Robert E. Gilpin, who has preserved the historic North Light on Block Island for nearly 30 years, has received the Antoinette F. Downing Volunteer Service Award.
- Lucie G. Searle was awarded the Frederick C. Williamson Professional Leadership Award for her work with historic properties in downtown Providence.
- Curt Genga was awarded the Frederick C. Williamson Professional Leadership Award for work preserving and maintaining the Preservation Society of Newport’s properties for 20 years.
- Philip Cryan Marshall was awarded the Frederick C. Williamson Professional Leadership Award for his work as a professor and as the director of the Historic Preservation Program at Roger Williams University.
- The Friends of Pomham Rocks Lighthouse has been awarded the Historic Preservation Award for a multiyear rehabilitation of the Pomham Ricks Lighthouse in East Providence.
- The University of Rhode Island was awarded the Historic Preservation Award for the exterior restoration of Eleanor Roosevelt Hall.
- CV Properties was awarded the Project Award for its rehabilitation of South Street Station in a collaboration with URI, Rhode Island College and Brown University.
- The Historic Preservation Project Award was given to Elementary LLC (comprised of Providence Revolving Fund and B.J. Dupre). For converting the Almy Street School into apartments in Providence.
- Case Mead Associates LLC was awarded the Historic Preservation Project Award for its reuse and restoration of the Case Mead Building into apartments in Downtown Providence.
- Carolyn Rafaelian, founder and owner of Alex & Ani LLC, for her multiyear restoration of Belcourt of Newport.
