A legislative call for prompt autopsy reports

Sen. John A. Celona, a North Providence Democrat, and chairman of the Senate Corporations Committee, has filed legislation requiring that autopsies be conducted and reported in a timely manner. The bill would require the state medical examiner’s office to furnish autopsy reports to representatives or family members of a deceased person within 90 days of the subject’s’ death.

“People who have just gone through the ordeal of losing a loved one shouldn’t have to wait six months to a year, as they have in the past, to get the results of an autopsy,” said Celona.
