PROVIDENCE – “Rhode Island motorists continue to benefit from a small easing of pain at the pump, as prices locally have fallen for the third straight week,” according to AAA Southern New England.
AAA’s Jan. 28 survey of local stations found that self-serve, regular unleaded gas averaged $3.049 per gallon, 3 cents less than last week’s average, and 9 cents less than three weeks ago. At this time last year, the average cost of gas was $2.209.
Nationwide this week, the average self-service price for unleaded regular fell 3 cents per gallon to $2.989, remaining 6 cents below the average price in the Ocean State.
The range in prices for self-service regular at local stations narrowed to 17 cents, from a low of $2.969 to a high of $3.139 Similar ranges were seen for other grades of fuel, which had average self-serve prices this week of $3.189 for midgrade unleaded, $3.289 for premium unleaded and $3.539 for diesel.
