PROVIDENCE – Gasoline prices in Rhode Island have declined for the fourth straight week, to 15 cents below their mid-May level, according to AAA Southern New England.
The nonprofit auto club’s June 25 survey found self-serve regular gas fell 3 cents over the past week to an average of $2.939 per gallon, 4 cents less than the average price nationwide. A year ago, the average local price was $2.959.
Rising national stockpiles of oil and gasoline, reported last week by the U.S. Department of Energy, are thought to be a factor in the decline.
The range in prices for self-serve unleaded regular in the latest survey was 31 cents, from a low of $2.839 to a high of $3.149. Similar ranges were found for other grades of fuel.
Average self-serve prices this week were $3.089 for midgrade unleaded, $3.179 for premium unleaded and $2.949 for diesel.
