PAWTUCKET – Newman’s Own Foundation in early August awarded the Boys & Girls Club of Pawtucket a $21,665 grant to address the need for fresh, locally grown food and more-nutritious meal options for local children.
The group will use the funds to support its after-school Healthy Lifestyles Program, which provides local youths aged 6-18 with the opportunity to participate in multiple activities and signature programs centered on promoting a healthy mind and body.
“Our out-of-school time programs ensure that each and every member can participate in a variety of fun and exciting activities that promote a healthy lifestyle,” said Boys & Girls Club of Pawtucket CEO James Hoyt in a statement.
The program’s curriculum includes daily fitness challenges, healthy cooking and nutrition classes, yoga, sports leagues and gardening, among additional choices. Program participants also receive a hot and nutritious evening meal.
“We provide a hot meal every evening to ensure that our kids have the fuel they need to be successful at school and beyond,” added Hoyt in his prepared remarks.
Founded by the late Paul Newman, the Newman’s Own organization has donated more than $500 million to thousands of charities across the world since 1982.
