BANKING
Susana Amaral Medeiros has been appointed a manager trainee at the
People’s Credit Union in Middletown and will be trained in all phases of
credit union operations and administration. She joined the program this
past July. A resident of North Providence, Medeiros received a bachelor
of science degree in management and international studies from Bryant
College
COMMERCE
Lorraine M. McCarthy has been approved as president and executive
director of the 500-member organization that is the Chamber of Commerce
of the Attleboro Area. She brings with her ten years of chamber
experience. The 1996 recipient of the national “Award for Excellence”,
McCarthy has received numerous awards for her efforts in program
development and membership services. She is a past-president and co-
founder of the Massachusetts Association for Membership Development and
a member of the National Association for Membership Development, the
Massachusetts Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives, and she is
affiliated with the American Chamber of Commerce Executives.
DESIGN
Richard Rubien of Providence has been promoted to project
superintendent/chief estimator of Trinkle Design Associates. He was
previously employed at Molony and Rubien for 17 years. His experience
evaluating engineering projects has enabled him to meet budget
requirements and assist facility managers for project solutions at the
East Providence interior design company.
ENGINEERING
Michael Rousseau has joined Northeast Engineers & Consultants, Inc. as
chief mechanical engineer. The Portsmouth resident will be responsible
for managing and directing the mechanical aspects of company projects
and the supervision of the mechanical engineering department. Rousseau
has completed 11 years active duty with the United States Navy as a
Lieutenant Commander. During his Naval career he managed machinery
maintenance, mechanical inspection, and ship repair projects, as well as
a combat system trainer project. He is a registered professional
engineer who holds a bachelor of science degree in mechanical
engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, in Worcester, Mass.
and a degree in mechanical engineering from the naval Postgraduate
School in California.
Joseph Sherer has been named president of Lee Engineering, a supplier of
material handling equipment. Sherer was previously Lee’s executive vice
president. He will now be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the
Pawtucket company’s manufacturing, finance and administration. He has
been employed with Lee’s parent company, United Dominion, for 20 years,
and has worked for several of Dominion’s other companies; most recently
with Marley Cooling Tower in Kansas. Sherer has a master’s degree in
business administration from the Amos Tuck School of Business at
Dartmouth College.
HEALTH CARE
Marita J. Zifcak of Cranston has been named vice president of human
resources at Saint Anne’s Hospital in Fall River. She has over 25 years
of healthcare experience, including extensive management experience in
health care human resources. Prior to coming to the hospital she served
at Lifespan Corporate Services, Brown University, UMass Memorial Health
Care, and Baystate Health Systems. A graduate of Westfield State College
with a bachelor of science in business management, Zifcak is also a
registered nurse with an associate’s degree from Springfield Technical
Community College.
HOSPITALITY
The Sea Fare Inn was selected by the Restaurant and Hospitality Rating
Bureau to receive its prestigious 1999 International Award of Excellence
as one of the top ten restaurants in its category. The Portsmouth dining
establishment is led by Master Chef George Karousos. The RAHRB has been
serving the hospitality industry worldwide since 1949. The International
Award of Excellence was established in 1995 as an extension of the
bureau’s 48 years of programs and services to the entire hospitality
industry.
MANUFACTURING
George Ebel has been appointed president of Uvex Safety Manufacturing.
In his new position he has comprehensive responsibility for all Uvex
manufacturing and support operations in North America. He comes to the
company from MDC Industrial, a high volume plastic and metal product
manufacturer where he served as group president and previously, general
manager. During his tenure with MDC, he directed the subsidiary’s growth
from $12 million to more than $150 million in annual revenue, while
introducing a range of innovative new production, sales, marketing and
management methods. A native of Canada, Ebel has degrees in mechanical
engineering and management from the GM Management and Engineering
Program and is a member of the Advisory Board of the University of
Iowa’s College of Engineering.
PETROLEUM
Lennette F. Boisselle will be replacing Paul T. Hicks as the executive
director of the Rhode Island Petroleum Association. For the last three
years Boisselle has served as vice president of government affairs for
the Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce, located in Lincoln. Prior
to coming to Rhode Island she served as chief of staff to then State
Senator Jane Swift, now Lt. Governor-elect of Massachusetts. Boisselle
will assume her position at the beginning of the New Year.
RESOURCE
Diane F. D’Errico of Warwick has been named executive director of the
Women’s Resource Center of South County. She officially began her duties
on the seventh of this month. She has over 15 years of leadership
experience and much of her work has been with hospitals and health
initiatives. For the past 4 years, D’Errico has been the director of
education for Women & Infants Hospital, managing all aspects of the
education and training for the hospital’s 2,000 employees. She has
served on a number of non-profit boards including Advent House, Sophia
Little Home and the Kent County Visiting Nurses.
