Nic Kelman
Nic Kelman has joined Duffy & Shanley, Inc. as copywriter on the creative team. He previously served as a freelance copywriter in New York. Kelman holds a Bachelor of Science in brain and cognitive science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and recently completed a master’s of fine arts in creative writing from Brown University. He is a resident of Providence.

Susan Maguire
Susan Maguire has joined the Southeastern Economic Development Corporation (SEED) as business assistance coordinator for the Southeastern Business Network (SBN). She will be working with participating organizations throughout Southeastern Massachusetts, Cape Cod and the Islands. Maguire was formerly employed as marketing assistant at Plymouth Savings Bank. She is working her way toward her bachelor’s degree in English/communications at UMass Dartmouth. She is the mother of three teenage children and resides in New Bedford, Mass.

Emilio A. Colantonio
Emilio A. Colantonio has been named director of community services at the Community College of Rhode Island. The former director of adult vocational training at CCRI has been acting in this capacity prior to the official appointment. Colantonio will have overall responsibility for all community services functions including planning, staffing, program development and responding to new course proposals. He will also oversee $1.5 million in grant money. He has 15 years of experience working in higher education at CCRI and has a master’s degree in adult education from the University of Rhode Island.

Diane Larsen
Diane Larsen has been named a partner at Ernst & Young LLP. A member of the firm’s assurance and advisory business services practice and a former senior manager, she has 13 years of experience serving the retail, distribution and manufacturing and technology, communications and entertainment industries, both in the publicly and privately traded sectors. Larsen teaches firm-sponsored training programs and participates in the Ernst & Young quality review and peer review teams. She is a graduate of Bryant College, where she earned bachelor’s degree in business administration with an accounting major. She is a member of the Rhode Island Society of CPAs and serves on the boards of the Providence Children’s Museum and the Times Squared Charter School in Providence. She resides in Rumford with her husband David and their son Jack.

Gillian Simmons, MD
Gillian Jacqueline Simmons, MD has been granted medical staff privileges at Southcoast Hospitals Group, a part of Southcoast Health System. She will be joining the practice of John W. Bender, MD and Charles J. Gormley, MD, accepting patients at Southcoast Primary Care in North Dartmouth, Mass. Dr. Simmons earned a medical degree from St. Louis University School of Medicine and completed a pediatrics residency at Hasbro Children’s Hospital, Brown University. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Medical Association. She was born in the United Kingdom and raised in Massachusetts. She acts as a chaperon for the Sail Away Program in Providence, which provides chronically ill children with the opportunity to learn sailing.

Steven E. Deware
Steven E. Deware has been promoted to senior vice president at Starkweather & Shepley, Inc. of East Providence. His responsibilities will include sales, servicing and marketing of commercial property and casual insurance and utilizing a comprehensive risk management approach to developing solutions for client needs. Deware joined the firm as vice president responsible for sales and service to commercial clients in 1997. He was formerly employed as assistant vice president at Frank B. Hall & Co., Inc. of Providence and began as an account executive at Insurance Underwriters from 1977 to 1982. He graduated from Rhode Island College with a bachelor of arts in mathematics and resides in Lincoln with his wife Cheryl and their daughter.

Dorothy M. Bouley
Dorothy M. Bouley has been appointed director of benefits and employee Administration at the Providence Journal Company. She will be responsible for all employee benefits, short-term disability, long-term disability, workers’ compensation and HRIS/payroll administration. Additionally, she will be responsible for providing total human resources support to Rhode Island Monthly Communications, Inc., a subsidiary of the Providence Journal Company. Bouley previously served as human resources manager and corporate benefits manager at the company. She is a member of the New England Human Resources Association, the Society for Human Resources Management, the Human Resources Management Association of Rhode Island, and the New England Employee Benefits Council. She is a resident of Barrington.

Robert A. Scaralia
Robert A. Scaralia, president of RE/MAX 1st Choice of Cranston, has been installed as the 94th president of the Greater Providence Board of REALTORS. He currently serves on the Greater Providence Board’s education committee and is the representative to the State Wide Multiple Listing Service “Users Group.” Scaralia is a director of the Rhode Island Association of REALTORS and serves on its finance and education committees. He has also chaired the State Association’s Equal Opportunity Committee.

Susan K. Rice
Susan K. Rice has been appointed controller at the Southeastern New England Shipbuilding Corporation of North Kingstown. She will be responsible for supervising all phases of the company’s financial department, including all aspects of accounting. She will provide budgeting, cost analysis, benefit administration and inventory control for the company, which specializes in the construction of barges, tug boats, ferries and other shallow-draft boats. She previously served as controller and finance manager at Control Techniques Drives, Inc., a division of Emerson Electric in Lincoln. She earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Bryant College and an associate’s in business administration from Rhode Island Junior College (now CCRI).

Chris Lowis
Chris Lowis has started Lowis and Associates, a professional search and placement firm located in Bristol. The company will specialize in identifying, evaluating and placing professionals in new career opportunities in sales, operations and management positions for their client companies. Lowis previously served as vice president at the Loflin Group in East Providence. He is a graduate of Bryant College and resides in Bristol with his wife Morgan and their two children Andrew and Kate.
