WARWICK – The cancer program at Kent County Memorial Hospital has earned three-year national accreditation from the Commission on Cancer, a program run by the American College of Surgeons.
The designation requires cancer programs to meet 34 standards and undergo evaluation every three years.
“This award demonstrates Kent’s dedication to improving patient outcomes and quality of life for cancer patients through evidence-based standards, prevention, research, education and the monitoring of comprehensive quality care,” said Dr. Paari Gopalakrishnan, chief medical officer at Kent Hospital. “I am also pleased to say that Kent is in consideration for the Outstanding Achievement Award for excellence, receiving six of six commendations for all applicable standards.”
As an accredited center, Kent’s cancer program includes surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, diagnostic radiologists, pathologists and other specialists. It offers prevention, early diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and end-of-life care.
Commission on Cancer-certified programs also have access to clinical trials and new treatments, genetic counseling and other services.
