(Providence-RI)— Chris Tzianabos has been named Vice President and General Manager of WLNE/ABC6 effective May 1st, 2011. The announcement was made by Ray Cole, President and COO of Citadel Communications LLC. Citadel will assume responsibility for the management of WLNE/ABC6 from Global Broadcasting pursuant to the terms of a Local Marketing Agreement on May 1st and is expected to take over ownership of the station this summer following FCC approval of the license transfer.
“Chris has a long employment history in New England and earned the respect of the business community during his tenure in the Boston market. He’s uniquely qualified to re-position WLNE/ABC6 in a way that better serves Providence and all of Rhode Island. We are extremely pleased to have an executive of his caliber taking the helm of WLNE/ABC6,” Cole said.
Tzianabos served as Vice President and General Sales Manager of WFXT (Fox) from August, 2000 – May, 2009. Prior to that, he served as Local Sales Manager for WXFT, National Sales Manager for WHDH (NBC), and Local Sales Manager for the New England Sports Network.
“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to join the team at WLNE/ABC6,” Tzianabos stated. “This is a very exciting time as we move forward with our goals to improve the quality of ABC6’s programming and overall level of community service on the station, especially our plans to convert our local broadcasts to HD.”
A southern New England resident, Chris resides with his wife Susan in Mansfield, Massachusetts. He is a graduate of Boston College.
