BOSTON – Citizens Bank, and Shawmut Design and Construction were named to a list of the Best Places to Work in Massachusetts in the Boston Business Journal’s 10th annual awards program.
The two businesses were chosen out of more than 400 companies to qualify for the contest after a two-stage nomination process and the results of employee-satisfaction surveys taken throughout March and April.
The top 25 companies in three size categories, small – 20 to 100 employees, midsized – 101 to 500 employees and large – more than 500 employees, will be honored during a breakfast ceremony at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center on June 1.
The Providence-based Citizens Bank was recognized in the large business category.
“At Citizens Bank, we strive for a culture and environment that makes for a rewarding place to work for our colleagues, who are our most important assets,” Jerry Sargent, president of Citizens Bank and RBS Citizens, Massachusetts said in prepared remarks.
“It’s their dedication and commitment that delivers an exceptional experience for our customers every day,” added Sargent.
Shawmut Design and Construction, which is headquartered in Boston but has an office in Providence, will be honored as one of the best mid-sized companies to work for in Massachusetts.
Shawmut’s Providence branch was named the No. 1 best place to work in Rhode Island by Providence Business News in 2008.
“Our Best Places to Work event will again recognize the importance of cultivating a great workplace culture as a competitive advantage,” Chris McIntosh, publisher of the Boston Business Journal said in a prepared statement.
“Companies on our list can be justifiably proud of creating a high level of workplace satisfaction during an economy where traditional rewards like big raises and bonuses aren’t as easy to give,” added McIntosh.
Suffolk Construction Company – the firm in charge of construction of the University of Rhode Island’s new state-of-the-art pharmacy building, also made BBJ’s list of Massachusetts’ top employers.
