PROVIDENCE – Citizens Bank last week named Eric Schuppenhauer as president of its mortgage banking division.

Schuppenhauer joins the Providence-based bank from Capital One where he was head of its mortgage business. As of Dec. 31, Citizens reported residential mortgages totaled $17 billion of its $110.6 billion in loans and leases.

Schuppenhauer has more than 15 years of senior mortgage-industry experience, according to a press release, and has held leadership positions at JPMorgan Chase and Fannie Mae.

“I am confidence that Eric’s deep expertise will help us take our home-lending business to the next level, further accelerating growth and enhancing our direct-to-consumer and digital capabilities,” said Brad Conner, vice chairman and head of consumer banking.

Schuppenhauer replaces Chris Nard, who led the mortgage division since 2015. The bank said Nard is leaving to “pursue other opportunities.”

Citizens Bank is the largest Rhode Island-based bank and a wholly owned subsidiary of Citizens Financial Group Inc. with $152.3 billion in assets.
