Covidien sues Johnson & Johnson again

MANSFIELD – Covidien Plc has filed another lawsuit against Johnson & Johnson’s Ethicon Endo-Surgery Inc. division for patent infringement.

Covidien filed the lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for Connecticut, contending that some of Ethicon’s Harmonic ultrasound surgical devices infringe upon two patents held by Covidien for its AutoSonix surgical products.

Covidien wants Ethicon to stop making and selling Harmonic products and pay damages.

A similar suit filed by Covidien was dismissed by the court last month. However, the ruling allowed Covidien to file a new suit on other grounds.

“We will vigorously protect our innovations with our intellectual property,” Ralph Corradi, vice president of Covidien’s Endomechanical franchise, said in a statement.
