MANSFIELD – Covidien Plc won a $4.8 million verdict against Applied Medical Resources Corp. for patent infringement last week.
A federal jury in Lufkin, Texas, found that Applied Medical infringed on a Covidien patent in making its Kii and Universal laparoscopic trocars, which are used for minimally invasive surgery.
Covidien is eying minimally invasive surgery as a key growth driver in the years to come.
Covidien “will continue to vigorously protect our innovations and intellectual property,” Ralph Corradi, vice president of Covidien’s Endomechanical Franchise, said in a statement.
