CVS same store sales up

Woonsocket-based CVS Corp. announced that same store sales for the five weeks ended Dec. 29 increased 7.1 percent over the prior year period. Pharmacy same store sales increased 9 percent, while front-end same store sales increased 4.2 percent.

Total sales for the five-week period ended Dec. 29 increased 8.2 percent to $2.46 billion, compared to $2.27 billion in the prior year period. Total pharmacy sales represented 61.9 percent of total company sales in December.

“Pharmacy same store sales were impacted by a significantly weaker flue season. Given that we were up against a pharmacy comp of over 20 percent in December last year, I am very pleased with our results,” said Tom Ryan, chairman, president and CEO.
