Dec. 7 run, walk to benefit W&I oncology program

PROVIDENCE – Women & Infants Hospital will host its 25th annual Christmas 10K Run and 5K Walk this Sunday, Dec. 7, in memory of Tricia Lovett Stallman and for all women who have been touched by cancer.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Integrative Care Program at Women & Infants’ Program in Women’s Oncology, which was started in 1994 and aims to integrate care for the physical, emotional and spiritual health of women with cancer.
Some of the therapies offered by the program include restorative yoga, therapeutic massage, pet companionship, hypnotherapy, journal writing, expressive arts workshops, acupuncture and weekend retreats. Most services are free or offered at a minimal charge.
“Our donors, like us, believe that the little things can make an enormous difference,” said Kristin Dalbec, assistant program coordinator. “A poem, music, a knowing smile, a healing touch – these are all offered simply in the hopes of improving the moment. I am so very pleased that the American Cancer Society joins our effort as this year’s lead sponsor.”
Also sponsoring the race this year are National Grid, UnitedHealthcare of New England and Whole Foods Market.
The event will begin at 10 a.m. at Rogers High School in Newport. Registration is $18 in advance or $20 on the day of the race. For information, call (401) 741-9788, e-mail here, or go to www.needtorace.com.
