William F. Melton has been appointed vice president for institutional advancement at Rhode Island School of Design in Providence. He had been vice president for external affairs at Middlebury College in Vermont, where he coordinated five departments, and director of development at Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Conn. Melton received his bachelor of arts degree in religious studies from the University of Virginia. His volunteer activities include service on the boards of the Cushing Whitney Medical Library, New Haven Symphony Orchestra, and the Urban League of Greater New Haven. The father of four children, he will be relocating to Providence with his wife Eliza Childs.
