WARWICK – Marine-electronics manufacturer FarSounder Inc.’s 3D Forward Looking Sonar is being installed on the Mystic Cruises vessel World Explorer.
Using the FLS, the state-of-the-art ship will be able to travel to places that larger ships cannot navigate, according to a FarSounder news release.
The technology offers navigation and obstacle avoidance so the luxury expedition vessel can mitigate risk when traveling to unfamiliar parts of the ocean, FarSounder said.
According to SeaTrade Cruise News, the World Explorer is 413 feet long, and features a hybrid propulsion system designed by Rolls Royce. The six-deck vessel also includes a theater/lecture hall, restaurant, library, casino, fitness room and jogging track.
The World Explorer journeys will include explorations to the polar regions, among other destinations.
Led by founding director and CEO Cheryl Zimmerman, FarSounder specializes in underwater acoustics.
