Gala to Honor Shape Up RI Founder Rajiv Kumar

May 23, 2011 [Providence]- Rajiv Kumar, founder and chairman of the most successful statewide wellness program in the nation, will be honored at a special celebration next month.

Shape Up RI’s Fifth Anniversary Gala Celebration and Fundraiser will take place on Thursday, June 2 at 5:30pm at GTECH Corporate Headquarters [10 Memorial Boulevard in Providence]. Individuals are cordially invited to attend the gala, which will feature exquisite cuisine, distinguished guests, and an elegant venue with a stunning view of Downtown Providence.

Proceeds from the reception and dinner will help establish a new fund for Shape Up RI.

Kumar, who graduates from The Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University in May, founded Shape Up RI in 2005. Since then, the award-winning program has rapidly expanded to become Rhode Island’s largest statewide, community-based wellness program. Nearly 65,000 individuals have enrolled in the program over the past six years, developing healthier lifestyles through Shape Up RI’s innovative model of teamwork and peer support.

Shape Up RI is an award-winning, team-based wellness program that unites friends, family, and colleagues to support each other and help them reach their health goals. Team members receive a digital pedometer, logbook, and access to a robust online data tracking system, through which they can set goals, track their progress, communicate with team members, and compare their results with other participants across the state.

Shape Up RI’s major sponsor is Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Rhode Island.

The cost of the June 2 event is $200. To register, visit www.shapeupri.org/celebration.
