PROVIDENCE – The average price of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island increased 2 cents this week to $2.55 per gallon, 14 cents lower than the national average of $2.69 per gallon and 5 cents lower than prices at this time last year, according to AAA Northeast Monday.
Prices in the Ocean State ranged 35 cents from $2.44 to $2.79 per gallon.
“Three months ago, motorists across the country could find gas for less than $2.50 at 78 percent of gas stations. Today, you can only find gas for that price at one-third of the stations,” stated Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast senior vice president of public and government affairs. “Supplies have been steadily decreasing since early February, causing spikes at the pump that are likely to continue throughout April and into May.”
- Midgrade gas averaged $2.80 per gallon, ranging from $2.69 to $2.96 per gallon
- Premium gas averaged $3, ranging from $2.89 to $3.16 per gallon
- Diesel fuel averaged $3.10, ranging from $2.95 to $3.27 per gallon
In Massachusetts, the average price of regular gas increased 3 cents this week to $2.53 per gallon, 16 cents lower than the national average and 1 cent lower than prices one year prior.
Prices ranged 68 cents from $2.37 to $3.05 per gallon.
- Midgrade gas averaged $2.72 per gallon, ranging from $2.57 to $2.99 per gallon
- Premium gas averaged $2.92 per gallon, ranging from $2.77 to $3.29 per gallon
- Diesel fuel averaged $3.03 per gallon, ranging from $2.79 to $3.39 per gallon
