PROVIDENCE – The price of gasoline in the Ocean State has remained stable over the past six weeks, according to AAA Southern New England.
In its July 19 survey, the auto club reported the average price of self-serve, regular unleaded to be $2.74 per gallon, the same average as last week and just 2 cents down from the $2.76 average reported on June 7.
According to Bloomberg News, crude oil was up for the first time in four days, with a $1.52, or 2 percent, increase to $77.53 a barrel for August delivery as of 9:39 a.m. on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
“The main focus is the stock market,” Phil Flynn, vice president of research at Chicago’s PFGBest, told Bloomberg. “Prices wouldn’t be here if stocks weren’t moving higher, because supplies are plentiful and demand is weak.”
Additionally, futures for September rose $1.55, or 2 percent, to $77.93 per barrel.
AAA found prices in Rhode Island ranging from $2.58 to $2.98 per gallon of self-serve unleaded gas. The Ocean State average of $2.74 is 2 cents above the national average of $2.72 per gallon.
Massachusetts gasoline prices fell 4 cents this week to $2.68 per gallon of self-serve, regular unleaded, bringing the Bay State average to 4 cents below the national average.
This week’s survey also found average self-serve prices of $2.90 per gallon of midgrade unleaded, $3.01 per gallon of premium unleaded and $2.99 per gallon of diesel at Rhode Island gas stations.
