PROVIDENCE – The Newport-based Gustave White Sotheby’s International Realty last week announced plans to open a new brokerage on the East Side. It will be the agency’s third office in the state, following branches in Westerly and Newport.
Paul A. Leys – a third-generation Newport native and Gustave White’s co-owner, with Christina K. West, since 2000 – said the expansion makes sense.
The brokerage increased sales – in dollar volume – by 18 percent year-over-year during 2007, he noted. The number of listings sold increased by 12 percent.
“I think we continue to do well because we have a track record for selling high-value properties,” Leys said. “Our average sales price is just under $1 million per property, one of the highest in the state.”
The new office, at 182 Butler Ave., will be run by Liz Taber, a member of the Women’s Council of Realtors who previously has served on the MLS Board of Directors. “We were delighted that Liz agreed to run the new office in a part of the state where the market is still expanding,” Leys said.
Gustave White Sotheby’s International Realty, established in 1925 as Andrews and White, became a Sotheby’s affiliate in June 2004.
