The company develops and applies vacuum technology solutions to electronic component
manufacturers, principally for the production of semiconductors, data storage
and flat panel displays. In late April the company posted its first quarter results,
with net income falling 37 percent from the previous, because of conditions in
the semiconductor industry, the company said. Net income fell to $5 million from
$8 million for the same period a year ago. Sales were $48.6 million, compared
to $50.1 million a year ago. Robert Lepofsky, the company’s president, said that
while some in the industry were predicting a recovery in the second half of the
year, Helix is “continuing to adjust our own operations to reflect lowered near-term
expectations.” He said, however, that he expects “year-over-year growth in our
global support operations.”
