PROVIDENCE – Rhode Islanders took to Google on Jan. 1, 2018, to understand how to remove toxins from their systems, based on a report by internet provider search website highspeedinternet.com.
According to the recently released report, Rhode Island was one of two states – New Mexico being the other – that searched Google for “detoxification” on New Year’s Day. Detoxify is defined by Merriam-Webster Dictionary as “to remove a harmful substance (such as a poison or toxin) or the effect of such from; to render (a harmful substance) harmless; and to free (someone, such as a drug user or an alcoholic) from an intoxicating or an addictive substance in the body or from dependence on or addiction to such a substance.”
Highspeedinternet.com says in the report that it wasn’t sure if both Rhode Island and New Mexico were ready to “start a detox diet” and commence making good on its New Year’s resolutions or “if they need a little help recovering from last night’s party.”
“Either way, we recommend drinking lots of water,” the report states.
Highspeedinternet.com says it based its findings in the report by seeking from Google Trends the most-searched terms on New Years Day 2018, ran those terms back through Google Trends to determine which states searched them and narrowed the list down to terms with the highest search volume by state.
In Massachusetts, residents took to Google on New Year’s Day to search for Canadian singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes. “McDonald’s” was the most-searched item on Google across the United States on New Year’s Day, according to the report.
