Immunex, Wyeth study says Enbrel helps fight psoriasis

Immunex Corp. and Wyeth’s pharmaceuticals unit said Enbrel was effective in treating moderate to severe plaque psoriasis, according to a Phase II study.

Enbrel, a fully human soluble receptor, has already demonstrated efficacy in treating patients with moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis.

In a press release Wednesday, Immunex said 53% of psoriasis patients treated with Enbrel were clear or almost clear of skin lesions at 6 months, compared to 5% of patients treated with placebo.

The companies also began a second, global Phase III pivotal study assessing the efficacy and tolerability of Enbrel to treat moderate to severe plaque psoriasis.
