PROVIDENCE – “Ransomware: The End of the World” is an upcoming discussion on what people, processes and technologies should be in place for companies to protect infrastructure and critical data against this evolving computer threat.
Josh King, director of security solutions at Exeter-based information technology services company Carousel Industries, is the featured speaker. The event will be hosted by Tech Collective, located at 188 Valley St. in Providence, on Tuesday, March 27, from 4 to 6 p.m.
“It grips your data and won’t let go until you cough up some serious dough – welcome to the horrific world of ransomware,” writes King in a Carousel Industries blog post. “According to Cisco, ransomware has quickly become the most lucrative type of malware ever seen, on its way to becoming a $1 billion annual market,” he writes, adding that basic things such as backing up data and training employees to spot anything suspicious, such as a phishing attack, are a good start.
He suggests companies implement a layered security approach, and notes that even formerly adopted best practices may now be out of date.
