PBN 40 Under Forty Awards 2025
KEVIN MATTA | 35
Senior director of people and culture, United Way of Rhode Island Inc.
What is the biggest challenge currently facing your industry and how are you responding to it? I believe the greatest challenge we are facing is division and uncertainty, from organizations visibly stepping away from equity and inclusion and others silently removing their funding. My role plays a key part in supporting Rhode Islanders to find clarity around what equity looks like activated through education that’s relevant and timely.
Where do you see yourself in five years? I see myself as better Kevin, leading with humility, equity and empathy.
What was your first job? My first job was at Pizza Hut as a waiter.
What is your favorite personal activity/pastime away from the office? Artistic expression ‒ painting, playing piano, singing, etc.
What led you to pursuing a career in your current industry? My family and the many injustices I saw and experienced firsthand. My family’s inability to support themselves around the complexities of learning a new language and work motivated me to help make it easier and more available to others.
