BRISTOL – Roger Williams University announced on Tuesday it hired Ame Lambert as the school’s first Chief Diversity Officer as part of an effort to diversify its faculty, staff and student body.
Lambert, a magna cum laude graduate of Baylor University, who received her master’s degree in business administration from Michigan State University, spent the last seven years working to increase diversity at Champlain College in Burlington, Vt.
In prepared remarks, Lambert said: “As great as RWU’s story is now, it is nothing compared to the story I believe it is creating. The Providence campus and excellent initiatives on the Bristol campus are evidence of this. I am excited to be part of a team that will make potential reality.”
RWU President Donald J. Farish said in a statement that he is pleased Lambert will continue her work at the university. “She has a strong track record in this field, and her co-workers at her previous campus gave her top marks for her commitment, expertise and capacity to work effectively with others,” he said.
In its 2014 vision project, RWU committed “to build the university the world needs now” – a goal which is supported by the hiring of more diverse faculty and staff and recruiting of students who “mirror the diversity” of the school’s community.
Lambert is currently a doctoral candidate in human resources at the University of Texas at Tyler. She will start her position at RWU on June 13.
