LIN posts second quarter loss

PROVIDENCE — LIN Television Corp. and LIN Holdings Corp. (LIN) posted a second quarter loss of $12 million, compared to a loss of $6.6 million during the year-ago period.

The $12 million loss includes an extraordinary pre-tax charge of $6.8 million due to an early extinguishment of debt, the company said in a statement accompanying results.

LIN’s revenues were down 6.1 percent for the quarter — $73 million compared to $77.8 million last year. The company’s chairman, president and CEO, Gary R. Chapman, stated that a soft national advertising market for the broadcast industry and the lack of political campaign advertising compared to last year contributed to the decline in revenues.

LIN owns 12 television stations and operates six others.
