The Armory Revival Co. and Myles Standish Associates broke ground last week for a luxury condominium complex at the former Katharine Gibbs School site on the city’s East Side.
The four-story brick building, at Butler Avenue and South Angell Street, will feature 11 condos ranging from 1,600 to 2,815 square feet. Prices will start at $785,000 and go to $1.65 million for the two penthouses, one of which already has been sold.
“The residences have been designed to accommodate the requirements of East Side residents who no longer need a larger, older home,” the developers said. The project, called 77 South Angell, is near both Blackstone Boulevard and Wayland Square.
“77 South Angell will offer a type of residence that is not currently available on the East Side but is very much desired,” said Robert E. Dupré Jr., a principal in Armory Revival. “The appointments, fixtures and finishes are some of the nicest being offered in Providence, and the location is unmatched.”
The apartments will feature open floor plans, fireplaced living rooms, gourmet kitchens and large master suites with his-and-hers walk-in closets. Each will have some outdoor amenity – a deck, balcony or patio – and some will offer river or Bay views. The building also will offer residents heated underground garage parking.
Neshamkin French Architects, consultant Diana Lewinstein and Angeli Design interior design all are involved in the project design. Financing is being provided by Citizens Bank, and the builder is Austin Ross Construction. Armory Properties is handling sales.

Armory Revival Co., known for its contributions to historic preservation and neighborhood revitalization, has completed more than 500 residences and 260,000 square feet of commercial space, winning numerous awards.
Myles Standish Associates is a development partnership between Stephen Lewinstein and Paul Griesinger, local real estate figures with major holdings on Wayland Square.
