PROVIDENCE – Dr. Bernard Raxlen, an internationally recognized Lyme disease expert, will speak about the latest scientific data on prevention, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of the debilitating illness at a meeting of the Rotary Club of Providence on April 28.
A limited number of seats are available to the public.
Over the past 20 years, Raxlen has treated more than 4,500 cases of tick-borne disease; more than 90 percent of his New York-based practice is devoted to chronic persistent relapsing Lyme and other tick-borne illnesses.
Raxlen is a founding member and past secretary of the board of governors of the International Lyme and Associated Disease Society, and he speaks frequently on Lyme disease and other topics. He was invited to speak at the Providence Rotary by club members Cynthia Leonard and Dr. Sara Ryan.
“With tick season approaching – in a part of the country where thousands of people, including several members of our Rotary Club, have contracted Lyme disease – we thought it would be useful to get the latest information,” Ryan said in a news release. “And having attracted an international authority, we decided to open the presentation to non-Rotarians, including members of the local medical community.”
Raxlen begins his presentations by handing out a list of what he calls the most common myths about Lyme disease, then explaining why each of those myths is not true.
The presentation is at 12:15 p.m. April 28 at the Providence Marriott.
