PROVIDENCE – R.I. General Treasurer Seth Magaziner was elected vice president of the National Association of State Treasurers.

The state treasurer will succeed outgoing vice president Deborah Goldberg, state treasurer for Massachusetts.

“State treasurers play a vital role in promoting economic growth and financial well-being for our citizens,” said Magaziner. “NAST plays an important role in convening state treasurers, so we can work together to implement sound financial policies and programs that benefit people in our respective states. I am pleased to continue my active role in this bipartisan organization.”

The succession will coincide with Vermont State Treasurer Beth Pearson becoming president of the association. She will replace outgoing president Ken Miller, state treasurer of Oklahoma.

The successions are slated for Jan. 1.
