Mansfield looking for muralist to depict town history on railroad underpass

MANSFIELD – A group of residents is looking for one good muralist. The assignment: cover approximately 8,500 square feet of dull gray concrete with a colorful depiction of the town’s history.
The unusual canvas is two walls part of an underpass carrying Route 106 under commuter rail lines. In October, the state completed renovation work including smoothing the concrete walls and repainting parts of the bridge.
“We have a nice new underpass itching to be decorated,” said Nancy Wall, chairwoman of the committee seeking a muralist for the job.
The committee, a subcommittee of the town’s Beautification Committee, is seeking professional muralists with experience to apply for the gig. Wall said the committee outlined the history theme, but was leaving it up to artists to develop the best method representing that.
The committee is also looking to raise money to pay for the project and provide a stipend to the winning artist. It also needs to finalize necessary approvals with the town and state.
