PROVIDENCE – Meeting Street school’s new Providence campus was named one of two Inspiration Award winners by Contract Magazine.
Designed by Saccoccio & Associates Architects, the project was recognized for “social responsibility in commercial design,” according to the Cranston firm. The school’s interiors were designed by Design One Consortium with materials from Cardi’s Furniture. The building is certified silver by the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.
As one of the first “inclusive” schools in the country, Meeting Street teaches children with and without disabilities.
“For Meeting Street, we were able to design an urban school with green design elements and bright, inspiring spaces for all students,” Saccoccio & Associates principal Mark Saccoccio said in a statement. “And added bonus is that the campus has sparked a sense of community and revitalization in the neighborhood. Everyone wins with a project like this.”
The Contract Magazine award included a $5,000 grant for the school. The other winner was BOTANIST (www.botanistseries.com/), a project by Los Angeles’ Orange 22 Design Lab.
