PROVIDENCE – Several city and town officials last week met with representatives of the largest credit rating agencies to learn more about how municipalities are evaluated.

The meet and greet, arranged by R.I. General Treasurer Seth Magaziner, was held on Dec. 6 at New England Institute of Technology.

“By bringing the rating agencies to Rhode Island, cities and towns can hear directly from the people who evaluate their financial health, and better understand what steps will help improve their credit ratings and reduce the cost of borrowing,” Magaziner said.

The meeting included representatives from Fitch Ratings, S&P Global Ratings and Moody’s Investor Services. About 55 municipal and state officials attended.
